The ADM and DC-G wrestling teams kicked off the new year Thursday, January 3 in a one on one battle in Adel.
Both teams battled hard but in the end, it was the likes of Dallas Center-Grimes to take the victory by a 43-24 margin. The hometown Tigers posted up six wins overall while the Mustangs delivered eight wins on the night.
Things began with a win by ADM’s Cole Williamson defeating Riley Kovaleski by 8-5 decision. The top Class 2A 126 pound wrestler, Andrew Flora, followed that up with a 7-4 decision win of his own giving him 20 wins on the season so far. Hogan Hopewell also bested his opponent by decision, 8-6.
In total, ADM had four wins by decision with Justice Paulson at 195 pounds taking a victory by 10-4. DC-G showed their strength rattling off four straight wins ranging from 145 pounds to 170 pounds. Cole Smith at 145 pounds for DC-G took his victory by forfeit while Class 3A’s sixth ranked 152 pound wrestler Luke Fistler, delivered yet another major decision victory winning 15-5. Bain Broderick continued his great work at 160 pounds with a victory over Jacob Crystal by fall at the 1:51 mark.
The hometown Tigers had two victories by fall which came from a very familiar duo of wrestlers. Nolan Harsh, Class 2A’s seventh ranked 182 pound wrestler picked up his 14th win by fall (according to trackwrestling.com) over Drew Clausen and did so at the 59 second mark. The other victory by fall for ADM came from Kaden Sutton at 220 pounds as he defeated Blake Willey in a highly contested match at the 3:08 mark.
Four of DC-G’s victories on the night came by way of pin-fall courtesy of Bain Bin Broderick at 160 pounds, Brock Renshaw at 106 pounds, Grant Waymire at 285 pounds, and Class 3A’s seventh ranked 182 pound wrestler in Zach Needham. Needham boosted his win total to over 12 wins on the year with the victory.
The win boosts the DC-G wrestling team up to 6-6 in dual meet action this year while the Tigers of ADM drop to 8-7 in dual meets so far on the season. DC-G continue’s their season on Saturday, January 5 taking on the Bobcat Jerry Eckenrod Invitational while ADM hits the road to battle in the Gary Christensen Invitational in Winterset, also on Saturday, January 5
