It was the first weekend action of the season for the Dallas Center-Grimes wrestling team and they turned in a masterful performance.
Out of 14 teams who flooded DC-G Meadows Gym Saturday, the Mustangs captured a second place finish behind 170.5 points, trailing only Class 3A sixth ranked Ankeny Centennial. In total, the Mustangs had six wrestlers claim top five performances, four of which were of the second place variety.
Kieran Shawhan started off the second place action after a narrow defeat by fall in the 113 pound weight class. In the 132 pound weight class Trevon Wells claimed second along with Class 3A’s sixth ranked 152 pound wrestler Luke Fistler who earned a second place finish as well. DC-G’s other ranked wrestler in 182 pound Zach Needham took home a second place finish as well.
The other top five finishes for the Mustangs included a third place finish for Brock Renshaw at 106 pounds along with Brody Burgher’s fifth place finish at 195 pounds.
The Mustangs will resume their season at Indianola high school against the likes of Ballard and Indianola beginning at 5:30 p.m.
