The Dallas Center-Grimes Fillies played the Carlisle Wildcats on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The Fillies came away with a close 37-35 win to start the season.
The game started out even, with the first quarter ending tied at 7-7. The Fillies took the lead at the end of the first half when they scored 14 points to the Wildcats’ nine (21-16). The Wildcats came back in the third quarter to get a two point lead at 28-26. In the final quarter, the Fillies were able to outscore the Wildcats by just three points, which was just enough to get the win.
Senior Jenna Borchers led the team in points. Borchers scored 21 of the team’s 37 points. She put up three field goals, four three pointers and made three out of three free throw attempts.
Jordan Cunningham led the Fillies in rebounds. The sophomore had a total of six; three offensive and defensive. The second leader for the Fillies was Leticia Nolte. Nolte finished the game with four rebounds over the Wildcats. She had two offensive rebounds and two defensive rebounds.
Nolte also led the team in assists. Out of the Fillies’ eight assists, she had a total of three. Nolte also tied with Cunningham for the Fillies’ leader in steals. Both Fillies had three steals a piece.
Sophomore Riley Hall had the Fillies’ only block against the Wildcats.
The Fillies took the game by just one field goal. With the victory, the Fillies begin their season 1-0, they will be playing again on Tuesday, Nov. 28 against Southeast Polk at 6:15 p.m.
