Van Meter girls’ softball started off the 2016 season on a positive note. The Bulldogs opened up with three straight victories.

On May 24, VM got things started with a blow-out road victory over Earlham. The Bulldogs put up 17 runs and allowed just one.

The second inning proved to put the game essentially out of reach for Earlham. VM recorded 11 runs in the second inning alone.

Casey Jamison had an outstanding performance. The senior went 3-for-3 with two triples and a homerun. Jamison collected five RBIs in the victory.

Bailey Richards pitched her way to victory, allowing two hits and one earned run. She struck out three batters and walked two. Richards also went 2-for-3 at the plate, drove in three runs and stole a base.

Freshman Meagan Blomgren collected two hits and scored three runs. Abby Archer put up three RBIs.

VM continued to roll at Roosevelt on May 25. The Bulldogs dominated with an 11-1 win, after strong plate appearances in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Richards performed well again on the mound and at the plate. The senior allowed six hits and one run in six innings, striking out five and walking three. She also picked up three hits, scored three runs and drove in three runs.

Jamison homered for the second straight game and recorded two RBIs. Meagan Blomgren had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases.

On May 27, the Bulldogs took on Chariton and came away with a 6-1 victory. VM started the game strong with three runs in the first inning.

Jamison homered yet again and collected two RBIs and a stolen base. Meagan Blomgren also hit a homerun and two more stolen bases.

Mackenzie Blomgren went 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base.

Haley Forret picked up the victory from the mound. In six innings, the freshman allowed six hits and one earned run. She struck out one Chariton batter.

VM fell to Winterset on May 28 by a mark of 6-1. The home Winterset team posted two runs in the first inning and piled on in the third, fourth and fifth innings to get the victory.

The Bulldogs managed to score one run in the fourth inning. Jamison drove in Richards in VM’s first loss of the season.

VM played Des Moines Christian on Tuesday, followed by Ogden on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will face Panorama on Thursday.
