The indoor meets are finally in the books and the outdoor track season is underway. The Dallas Center-Grimes and A-D-M girls’ track teams got their outdoor seasons underway as the Fillies hosted the DC-G Early Bird Invitational at DC-G High School in Grimes on Monday.
A-D-M senior Kari Dufoe got started on the right foot as she took first place in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash.
She finished one second ahead of A-D-M’s Maggie Bjustrom, who took second place in the 100 meter dash. Dufoe finished with a time of 12.32 seconds while Bjustrom finished with a time of 13.32 seconds.
Sydney Bertman took fifth place with a time of 13.42 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
In the 200 meter dash, Dufoe took first with a time of 27.97 seconds. DC-G’s Ashley Lauren took fifth place with a time of 30.35 seconds in the 200 meter dash.
Only six runners competed in the 400 meter dash. Dufoe took first place with a time of 1:00.17, DC-G’s Tatum Jorgensen took second with a time of 1:01.10 and DC-G’s Ashton Rossmanith took sixth with a time of 1:19.92.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Bjustrom led the pack, finishing in 17.24 seconds while DC-G’s Amber Workman and Olivia Weaver took third and fifth in the race. Workman finished in 18.32 seconds and Weaver finished in 18.51 seconds.
Brianna Mueller won the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:04.61 while Lexi Smith, a freshman at DC-G took fourth place, finishing the race in 5:19.96.
Jorgensen of DC-G took first place in the high jump with a height of 4-10.0. Gilbert’s Megan Willroth also had a height of 4-10.0.
Bertman of A-D-M took first place in the long jump, recording a jump of 16-02, five inches longer than DC-G’s Workman, who took second place with a distance of 15-09. Piper Freestone of A-D-M took third place with a distance of 15-07.
The Tigers took first place in the 4x100 meter relay while the Fillies took second.
The Tigers’ 4x100 team consisted of Bjustrom, Bertman, Olivia Anderson and Dufoe and they finished in 51.87 seconds. The Fillies ran the race with Brooke Kramer, Maci Masching, Workman and Abby Ryan and they finished with a time of 52.76 seconds.
The Fillies flipped the script in the 4x200 meter relay as they took first place and the Tigers took second.
The DC-G team of Kramer, Rachel Lowary, Masching and Ryan finished with a time of 1:53.45. The A-D-M team of Bertman, Anderson, Mallory Pierce and Mueller finished with a time of 1:54.68.
The Fillies took first place once again in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Jaymie Block, Lowary, Kramer and Jorgensen finished with a time of 4:18.59.
A-D-M took third in the 4x400 with a time of 4:33.27.
In the 4x800 meter relay, the Tigers took second place behind Gilbert, the Fillies took third place.
DC-G’s 400 meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Masching, Workman, Weaver and Ryan took first place with a time of 1:10.94.
Ellise Mueller of A-D-M took second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:40.67, just under six seconds behind Gilbert’s Karli Rastetter of Gilbert, who took first place. DC-G’s Katie Murano took third and Jessica Pugh took fifth.
Gilbert had the top two spots in the 3000 meter run, but A-D-M’s Jillian Hofmann took third place with a time of 13:17.80.
DC-G took second and third place in the 400 meter hurdles with Weaver finishing in 1:16.85 and Greiman finishing close behind in 1:16.93. A-D-M’s Emily Wilkerson took fourth place with a time of 1:18.71.
The Tigers and the Fillies combined to take three of the top five spots in the discus throw. A-D-M’s Erica Baier took second place with a throw of 98-05 feet while DC-G’s Maddie Carpenter took third with a throw of 97-01 feet and DC-G’s Aldina Husic took fifth with a throw of 82-02 feet.
Baier also took fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 28-08 feet.
The Tigers took second place in the 4x800 meter relay while the Fillies took third place.
The Fillies took second in the 800-sprint medley relay while the Tigers took fourth. In the 1600-distance medley relay, the Fillies took third and the Tigers took fifth place.
The A-D-M and DC-G girls will both be back in action April 6 when they will compete at an invitational at Barton Field in Urbandale, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
