There were a lot of scoring chances in both the first and second halves for the Fillies, but Pella was too much for the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ soccer team in the first round of the state tournament.
Pella beat DC-G 2-1.
Pella took a 2-0 lead early in the game and carried it into the second half. The Fillies had a lot of scoring chances in the game with a couple of shots going off the posts but couldn’t score until the 11th minute of the second half, courtesy of Shelby Bowersox.
DC-G coach Dan James said the shots going off the posts kind of sums up their season. "We’ve hit the post I don’t know how many times in the last couple weeks, so we just couldn’t buy a break today," said James. "We tried mixing it up in the second half with a few new players and it kind of sparked us and we just couldn’t get that final edge to get one in the back of the net."
After the Fillies scored their first and only goal, James said the team got sparks from putting players in different positions, including senior Maddie Quick who got hurt in the second half. James also said that in the last 20 minutes of the game he started pulling defenders and putting more forwards up top to try to keep the pressure up. "It was do or die in that last 10 minutes so we were just trying to sneak one in but we couldn’t quite get that done," said James.
