The return home for the Dallas Center-Grimes girls basketball team was a victorious one as the Fillies defeated conference foe Newton 50-21.
It was an extremely fast start for the Fillies and it began with a dominant first quarter defensive push. Coming into the game, Newton posted no less than seven first quarter points but on Friday night at Meadows Gym, the Lady Cardinals were shut out, not scoring a single first quarter point. Meanwhile, the Fillies jumped ahead 11-0 after the first quarter and 26-9 heading into the halftime break.
The third quarter witnessed a stronger offensive production by the Cardinals, out scoring DC-G 12-11 but that momentum fell short once the Fillies shut out the Cardinals once again in the fourth quarter. The Fillies themselves put up 13 points which would eventually lead to the 50-21 victory. The Fillies now increase their record to 3-1 marking the third time in the past four seasons that DC-G girls basketball has done so.
The newly minted 3-1 Fillies will resume action on the hardwood on Tuesday, December 4. They will be traveling to Perry to take on the non conference foe Jayettes.
