It was the 2018-19 season opener for the Dallas Center-Grimes wrestling team Thursday night as the Mustangs traveled to Norwalk to battle the Class 3A tenth ranked Warriors.

Unfortunately, a tough start and a strong Norwalk team rendered the Mustangs a loss to start the year, being defeated 59-12. The Mustangs battled tough but acquired just two victories on the night, courtesy of Garrett Morris (170 lbs) and Class 3A’s second ranked 182 pound wrestler Zach Needham. Both wrestlers won by fall with Morris victorious at the 3:24 mark while Needham did so at 3:08.

DC-G’s other ranked wrestler in Luke Fistler, sixth ranked at 152 pounds, fell in a narrow 4-2 decision victory to Norwalks Carter Schmidt.

Six of DC-G’s defeats came by way of fall while two came by way of tech fall, followed by three losses by decision and one by major decision. Mustang wrestling falls to 0-1 on the young season but will seek to get into the win column when they host the DC-G invite on Saturday, December 1st ad DC-G Meadows Gym. The Mustangs will welcome in a 13 team field including ADM, Ankeny Centennial, Carroll, Creston Community, Des Moines East, Greene County, Interstate-35, Nevada, Oskaloosa, PCM, Urbandale, Webster City, and West Marshall.
