A big congratulations are in order to the Dallas Center-Grimes volleyball team as they were crowned conference champions Thursday night in Oskaloosa.
The success gives the Fillies their second straight conference tournament crown. The Fillies did so by dispatching 2-0 wins over Oskaloosa, Grinnell and even 2017 state qualifier Pella. DC-G continued their fast starting pace against Oskaloosa, winning 21-11 and 21-9. Against fourth ranked Pella, Dallas Center-Grimes took control late in two straight sets 21-16 and 21-17 which set them up for a conference title match-up against Indianola.
The Class 5A 12th ranked Lady Indians provided more of a battle. The Fillies struck first and claimed a 25-19 set one win. It wouldn’t have been a championship match without a back and forth battle which is exactly what the Lady Indians provided the fifth ranked Fillies. Indianola tied set two up late 23-23 and then two strong set points later, evened things up with a 25-23 set two win. Set three is where the Fillies proved their championship caliber by striking a 15-12 set three win, giving them the conference tournament crown once again.
The tournament sweep gives the Fillies a 32-4 record to round out the regular season. The next bout of action on the competitive hardwood for DC-G will be on Tuesday, October 22nd in round two of the Class 4A Region Three tournament. There the Fillies will face off against the winner of the round one match-up between Boone and Perry.
