After ending last week with a loss to Pella Christian, the DC-G softball team picked up a pair of wins during their weekend stint in Creston on Saturday, June 9.

The Fillies picked up a 6-0 win over hometown Creston with a 7-3 win over Sioux City East. The Fillies did suffer a loss in the tournament, falling to Clarke of Osceola by an 8-5 decision.

The game against Creston saw just two innings worth of scoring throughout the entire contest. The Fillies opened up the scoring with a four run first and added with a two run third inning for all the offense they would need. Dallas Center-Grimes picked up ten hits in the contest across ten different batters. Amber Fistler poked in a two run RBI double to pace the way offensively while Lani Gannon did damage inside the circle with non runs allowed and eight strikeouts dished out through seven innings of work.

The second win of the weekend game against Sioux City East. The Fillies struck first with five runs through three innings before Sioux City East nearly tied the game up with a three run fourth. The Fillies sealed the win with two runs in the fifth which would hold for a 7-3 win.

Fistler once again came through by pouring in three RBI’s after a home run while Maria Hendricks and Lauren Osborn picked up a pair of two hit games. Lani Gannon took the win with eight strikeouts and just three runs allowed on the mound. That would mark the sophomore’s fifth win of the season.

It was a huge six run bottom of the third inning from Clarke that eventually did the Fillies in with an 8-5 loss. The Fillies answered as well as they could with five runs over the fourth and fifth innings but Clarke put the game away with two runs in the sixth for the 8-5 win.

The Fillies tallied eight hits in the game including a trio of two hit games from sophomore Riley Hall, junior Jessica Bales, and senior Amber Fistler. Riley Hall took on the circle for the Fillies and suffered eleven hits and four earned runs allowed to go along with two strikeouts.

The Fillies are now 5-9 on the season and will take on a conference double header against Pella Monday, June 11. The double header will take place in Dallas Center and will begin with game one first pitch at 5:30 p.m.
