After winning a top ten match up against Class 34’s sixth ranked Ballard, the 13th ranked Dallas Center-Grimes softball team is back in action today, looking for their second win of the season.

The Fillies took a narrow 6-5 win over a Ballard team who came within a few runs of a state championship last season. It was a game in which the Fillies held the lead for all but one half of an inning. It was a quick 1-0 first inning lead that turned into a 4-1 fourth inning advantage. The Bombers tallied their first lead of the contest with a four run top of the fifth, only to have DC-G equalize the game at 5-5 in the bottom half of the fifth. The contest stayed tense all the way up until the bottom of the fifth where the Fillies would pull through with a 6-5 win.

The Fillies had a total of 12 hits in that contest including a three hit game from freshman Maria Hendricks. Three other softball stars had mutli-hit games including sophomore Riley Hall, freshman Kylie Merical, and junior Lauren Osborn, all with two hits.

Now the Fillies will be tackling game number three of the young season today against the reigning Class 4A champions in the Winterset Huskies. Today will be the four game tie breaker between these two teams. Both teams have put up ten runs each throughout the last four contests with Winterset victorious in the two most recent match ups.

The JV contest will begin tonight with first pitch at 4:30 p.m. followed by the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity match up to round it out at 7:30 p.m.
