A strong comeback was not enough for the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ golf team to secure first place Tuesday afternoon in Grimes.
The Fillies were up against the likes of conference champion Grinnell along with Oskaloosa and ended up splitting the difference with a team score of 201 at the Beaver Creek Golf Course.
Spearheading the action for the Fillies included Lydia Steier who used a three par performance to secure third place for the meet with an eight-over par 44. Steier’s mark of 44 not only placed her third in the meet but also gave the junior her lowest nine hole round of the season.
Dallas Center-Grimes would pepper the top ten placing three more inside the top ten finishers starting with Aubree Klug. The fellow junior came into the meet averaging just over 51 strokes per nine holes but Tuesday, she kicked up the intensity and shot a nine hole 50. Sarah Rauschenberg had an unusually quiet day but still managed to make a loud impact placing eighth overall with a score of 52. Finally, Annagrace Dalbey rounded out the Fillies inside the top ten placing exactly tenth with a stroke count of 55.
Reagan Stokely played one of her better performances falling just four strokes shy of her season best with a round of 56 while Grace Wengert put up a nine hole round of 62 strokes.
The finish brought the Fillies a third place regular season conference finish to go along with their third place finish at the conference meet.
The Fillies will continue their regular season at home on Monday, May 14 welcoming in the likes of Perry and Winterset to the Beaver Creek Golf Course. The meet will be the final meet of the regular season for the Fillies and will tee off at 2:30 p.m.
