Six top five finishes highlighted a nice night on the track for the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ track and field team Thursday in Waukee.
Out of a 15 team field the Fillies ended the night squarely in sixth place with a total of 34 points while host Waukee took the meet crown with a point total of 184.4.
DC-G proved strong in both relay and individual events with three top five finishes each. Each of the three relay teams earned season bests including the 4x800 meter relay team of Sami Sterbenz, Ashley Ferguson, Lexi Smith, and Emma Angus who clocked in with a time of 10:23.90 to take fourth. The 4x100 meter relay team consisted of Abby Ryan, Abby Weddle, Ashley Murrow, and Sarah Frett and earned fifth place with a time of 51.19 seconds. Finally, the distance medley relay team of Tristyn Paup, Hannah Ashley, Grace Mikota, and Miranda Muhlstein placed fifth with a season best time of 4:40.79.
Individually the Fillies were led by Ally Ferguson in the high jump earning a third place finish thanks to a jump of five feet even. Natalie Paulson cracked the top five as well by earning a fourth place finish courtesy of a time of 11:34.17 which was closely followed by teammate Nicole Merical in eight place with a time of 11:47.26.
Ashley Murrow rounded out the individual top five finishers by setting a season best in the 100 meter dash coming in fifth with a time of 13.28 seconds.
The next wave of competitive action for the Fillies will begin on Tuesday, April 17th where they will be at home welcoming in a nine team field to DCG Stadium. Field events are scheduled to begin the festivities at 4:30 pm followed by the running events.
