Twenty-five top five finishes helped the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ track and field team to secure the top spot in the Cavanaugh Relays Thursday, April 5th.

Seven first place finishes proved to be the biggest push for the Fillies first place success spanning two individual events and five relay events. The two individual first place winners included Aldina Husic in the discus and Lexi Smith in the 1500 meter run. Husic picked up her second first place finish of the outdoor season by nearly seven feet over second place thanks to her toss of 109 feet, five inches. Smith picked up her first official first place finish in the 1500 meter run this season clocking in with a time of 5:29.70.

Five first place relay events proved just as strong for the Fillies who captured the 4x400 meter relay crown with a time of 52.01 seconds with the team of Abby Ryan, Abby Weddle, Ashley Murrow, and Sarah Frett. The 4x200 meter relay team of Courtney Stanley, Tristyn Paup, Riley Feeley, and Haylee Hidlebaugh raced to first as well with a time of 1:59.28. Similar success was had of the first place 4x400 filly team of Grace Mikota, Miranda Muhlstein, Hannah Ashley, and Ashley Ferguson with a time of 4:28.04.

The 400 shuttle hurdle relay team of Carsyn Vance, Katelyn Knudsen, Lillian Berger, and Sarah Frett traded their second place finish last time out with a first place finish thanks to a time of 1:12.54. The relay team of Abby Ryan, Ashley Murrow, Abby Weddle, and Sami Sterbenz stole the show in the 800 sprint medley relay by clocking in at 1:57.42, nearly a full two seconds ahead of second place.

Next up for the Fillies will be a trip to Norwalk on Tuesday, April 10th. Field events will start things off at 4:30 pm.
