The Dallas Center-Grimes Fillies traveled to Urbandale for a volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Fillies played five games and went 2-3 at the invitational.
The Fillies played Sioux City, North for their first game. Unfortunately, they lost 2-1, but all three sets went into extra points; Sioux City won the first set 22-20, DC-G the second 22-20 and Sioux City won the final set 19-17.
Hannah Ashley led the Fillies in kills. She had nine kills, three errors and 30 attack attempts for a kill efficiency of 0.200.
Abby Greiman led the Fillies in blocks and serves. Greiman had four of the team’s 11 blocks, all four were block assists. She also had one of the team’s two aces and went seven-for-seven on her serves.
The Fillies’ second ace of the game was from Katherine Wood who also had a 1.000 serve efficiency from making nine of her serves over the net.
The Fillies won their second game against Johnston 2-1. Johnston won the first set 21-19, but the Fillies came back to win the next two (21-14 and 15-6).
Katelyn Knudsen led the Fillies in kills against Johnston. She had seven kills, three errors, 21 attempts and kill efficiency of 0.190.
Tiffany Denger had two blocks all of which were assists to lead team.
Ashley and Greiman both had one ace to lead to Fillies. Ashley had 13 successful serves for a 1.000 efficiency and Greiman made three of her four serves over for a 0.750 efficiency.
The Fillies lost their game against Ankeny Centennial 2-0 (21-19 and 21-8).
Ashley led the game in kills with her total of five. She finished the match with an efficiency of 0.111 after having three errors at 18 attack attempts.
Again, Denger led the Fillies with two blocks; one solo and one assist.
Ally Ferguson and Dakota Miles tied in serves against Ankeny Centennial. Both Fillies finished the match with a serve efficiency of 0.800 with four successful serves out of five total.
The Fillies’ fourth game was against Holy Trinity Catholic. Unfortunately, the Fillies also lost this game 0-2; 25-19 and 25-16.
Knudsen led the game in kills for the Fillies. She finished the match with an efficiency of 0.077 after having five kills, four errors and 26 attack attempts.
Greiman had three blocks for the team. She had three of the Fillies’ six block assists.
Ferguson had the Fillies’ once ace of the game. She also made all seven of her serves over the net for an efficiency of 1.000.
The Fillies’ final game of the day was against Des Moines, East. The Fillies also had their second win of the day when they won 2-0 (25-14 and 25-10).
Once again, Ashley led the Fillies in kills with ten kills, no errors and 19 attack attempts. Ashley finished the match with a kill efficiency of 0.526.
Greiman also led the Fillies, again, in blocks. Of the team’s four blocks, Greiman had two.
The Fillies finished the game with seven aces against East. Denger and Ferguson had five of those aces combined.
Denger led with three aces and went seven-for-seven on her serves as well. Ferguson had two aces and finished with a serve efficiency of 0.900 from making nine of her ten serves over the net.
The Fillies next match is on Tuesday, Oct. 3 against Pella Christian at 7 p.m.
