The Waukee Warriors cross country team hosted an invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The girls hosted five teams and the boys hosted six. The Dallas Center-Grimes cross country teams were one of the teams to run at the invitational.

On the girls side of the meet, the Warriors finished in first place and the DC-G Fillies place third, with just Ames separating the two teams.

The Warriors average team time was 20:09.9, they also had five of their top seven runners place in the top ten.

Peyton Kelderman and Sydney Schaffer led the Warriors in first and second place. Peyton Kelderman (first) ran a time of 19:27.7 and Sydney Schaffer (second) finished with a time of 19:49.1.

Isabelle Schaffer and Karson Foley placed back-to-back as well. Isabelle Schaffer placed fourth with her time of 20:23.5 and Foley placed fifth with a time of 20:27.0.

The Warriors’ fifth runner in the top seven was Lindsey Kelderman. She placed seventh when she ran a time of 20:42.2.

The Warriors’ last two of their top seven runners were Katie Groetken and Megan Groathouse. Groetken placed 11th with a time of 20:52.2 and Groathouse place 14th with a time of 21:21.0.

The Fillies placed third at the meet, with their average time of 21:07.3.

Miranda Muhlstein led the Fillies with her time of 20:35.0, which allowed her to place sixth.

Emma Angus was the second highest-placing Filly in tenth with her time of 20:52.0. Lexi Smith followed with her time of 20:58.7 for 12th place.

Kaitlyn Murano and Natalie Paulson finished back-to-back. Murano placed 17th with a time of 21:28.6 and Paulson placed 18th with a time of 21:42.2.

Sami Sterbenz and Nicole Merical finished up the meet for the Fillies. Sterbenz ran a time of 22:03.1 and placed 20th and Merical placed 23rd with a time of 22:09.4.


Just as the girls had done, the Warriors placed first on the boys half of the meet and the DC-G Mustangs placed third.

The Warriors average team time was 17:01.4. Also like the girls, the boys had five of their runners in the top ten.

Moe Smith and Danny Haisch started off the meet for the Warriors by placing third and fourth. Smith (third) finished the meet with a time of 16:48.3, Haisch (fourth) ran a time of 16:52.8.

Travis Loecke, Tyler Loecke and Ahren Reitsma were the other three Warriors in the top ten. Tyler Loecke placed seventh with his time of 17:03.5, Tyler Loecke place eighth after running a time of 17:10.9 and Reitsman finished in ninth with a time of 17:11.3.

Jackson Smith placed 16th for the Warriors when he ran a time of 17:32.7. Jordan Swanson was the last of the Warriors’ top seven runners. Swanson finished in 28th with his time of 18:04.1.

The Mustangs had an average time of 17:25.4. Jacob Waymire kicked off the meet for the Mustangs by placing fifth with his time of 17:00.5.

Bradley Ramsey was the second Mustang to cross the finish line. Ramsey placed 11th with a final time of 17:18.0. In 13th place was Trenton Meggers, who ran a time of 17:24.1.

Brian Miner was next for the Mustangs. He place 19th with his time of 17:41.3. Just two second behind Miner was Alex Thompson who placed 22nd with a time of 17:43.0. Ean Followwill followed in 23rd with his time of 17:44.6.

The last of the top seven Mustangs was Steve Borneman. Borneman placed 26th with his final time of 17:56.6.

The Warriors next meet is on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

DC-G’s next meet is on Oct. 5 at 4:30 p.m. as well. The Mustangs and Fillies will be traveling to the Atlantic Country Club in Atlantic.
