Governor’s Days Bingo!


The Friends of the Grimes Public Library is hosting its second annual Governor’s Days Bingo. With over $4,000 in prizes from more than three dozen sponsors, there will be prizes you won’t want to miss! Gift cards, concert tickets, staycations and more! Bingo will be held in the park shelters located outside the Library on Friday, June 8, 6-8p.m. $1 per card, and $5 per card for the last game. All ages welcome! All proceeds benefit the Grimes Public Library.

Summer Reading Volunteer Training - Wanting to volunteer for our Summer Reading Program? Summer Reading volunteers must be 14-17 years old and must complete our 30 minute volunteer training. Stop by any one of our 4 training sessions this month to get ready for summer!

Tail Waggin’ Readers: Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. Register for a 20 min. time slot. 15 min. to read, 5 min. to play! K-5. Registration required.

On on One: Address an Official: Drop in 5:30-8pm to meet with City Council member Ryan Burger. Share your thoughts, concerns, and ideas for the future of Grimes!

Instrument Petting Zoo: Join members of the Des Moines Symphony Academy as we learn about and explore the violin, the cello and more! Ages 4-10. Registration required.

Ruby Reads: Join Ruby the stuffed red panda for one of her favorite stories and meet some live animal friends from Blank Park Zoo. Ages 2-4.

Modular Origami: Join us as we learn about modular origami with David Gisch, a Professor of Mathematics at DMACC. Ages 14+. Registration required.

A Very Musical Habitat: Join an educator from Blank Park Zoo as we explore the songs and sounds of different habitats and meet 4 live animals that call those habitats home. All ages.

Red Cross Babysitting Course: Gain the knowledge & confidence to care for infants and children and become certified by the Red Cross in babysitting and infant CPR. A $35 class fee is due prior to class, and sack lunch brought that day. Ages 11-15. Registration required.

Evening Story Time: Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.


Families are invited to listen to stories, participate in songs and rhymes, and make a craft. No registration required.


Friday Story Time: Fridays at 10:00 a.m.


Kids of all ages are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, games and crafts. No registration required.


Baby Lapsit: Fridays at 11:00 a.m.


A time for babies 0-18 months and their caregivers to play and grow through songs, short stories, nursery rhymes, and other developmental activities. No registration required.
